What is Social Enterprise?
The Skoll Foundation defines Social Enterprises as “businesses that trade in the market in order to fulfill social aims. They bring people and communities together and provide the opportunity for economic and social development.”

Social Enterprises essentially use business to address a pressing social need. The businesses are profit-making (but not profit maximizing) ventures that solve traditional social problems in responsible, sustainable and innovative ways. The concept of using business to address social issues is a rapidly growing business model. We believe Social Enterprise is the right step in the right direction. We agree with Bill Gates in his statement that "the common sense of the business world, with its urgency and focus, has strong applications in the philanthropic world."
